Description

You move around. Sometimes on two wheels, sometimes on four, sometimes on one of those electric unicycle things that make pedestrians nervous. Point is, you occasionally wonder "how far did I actually go?" and "was that really 120 km/h or is my car's speedo lying to me again?"

RideLog answers these profound questions.

** What it does **

- Live dashboard while you ride – Big, readable speedometer (analog or digital, your choice), real-time stats, works in landscape. Mount your phone and enjoy a dashboard that doesn't look like it was designed in 1997.
- Auto-detects your rides – Start moving, it starts tracking. Stop for coffee, it figures that out too. Like magic, except it's just GPS and some reasonably competent code.
- Tracks the stuff that matters – Speed (current, max, average), distance, duration, elevation gain. All the numbers you'll quote to impress people who didn't ask.
- Works with anything that moves – Cars, bikes, e-bikes, scooters, skateboards, golf carts, riding lawnmowers. If GPS can see it, we'll track it.
- Looks surprisingly good – Analog or digital speedometer, six dashboard color themes. Because staring at numbers should at least be aesthetically pleasing.
- Home screen widgets – Start rides, see stats, all without opening the app. We know you're lazy. We respect that.
- Exports to GPX – For the three people who actually import ride data into other apps. You know who you are.
- Works offline – No account. No cloud sync. No "please rate us" popups every 30 seconds. Your rides stay on your device until you decide otherwise.

** What it doesn't do **

- Sell your location data to advertisers
- Require a monthly subscription for basic features
- Judge you for that 400m trip you definitely could have walked
- Pretend to be a "social fitness platform"

Built by someone who got tired of bloated apps that want to be your life coach when you just want to know how fast you're going.

** Setting it up right **

The speedometer uses GPS, not your car's computer. It will lag slightly and is only as accurate as your phone's GPS chip. Don't use it to argue speeding tickets.

For auto-detection to work reliably:
- Grant "Allow all the time" location access (not just "While using")
- Disable battery optimization for RideLog in your phone settings
- Set your min/max speed thresholds in Settings — min should be below your slowest cruising speed, max should be above your fastest. Default values work for e-bikes but not highway driving.

If rides aren't starting automatically, it's almost always one of those three things.

** Permissions explained like a normal human **

- Location: Obviously. It's a GPS tracker.
- Background location: So it can keep tracking when you check your messages.
- Notifications: To tell you it's still recording.
- That's it. No contacts, no camera, no microphone. We're not that kind of app.
