I am using Huawei Watch 2, and originally only the base watch faces worked. By this I mean when I customized them it didn't apply the custom version to the watch. But all of the sudden it does now. Highly recommend.

We are glad to hear that. 99% of the time is caused by failure in Watch and Phone communication or problems with Google Services. Update these services or Restart devices helps. The modifications should be instantaneous when applying them.
