There is a plate on the bench, a printing press above it and a design you chose yourself. All you have to do is bring the two together perfectly. Easy, until the press is coming down and you realise perfect is a much narrower target than it looked.

HOW TO PLAY

Start by designing. Choose a paint colour, choose a stamp, and build the pattern you want printed. A smiling emoji, a duck, a clean two tone finish, whatever you fancy on the piece in front of you.

Then print it. Line the press up over the plate, bring it down and hold it just right. Too little and the print comes out faint and patchy. Too much and the whole thing shatters under the press. Get it exactly right and the design lands crisp and even across the curve.

Three stars for a clean print, coins in your pocket, and on to the next one.

MAKE IT YOURS

The design step is where the game opens up. Two players finishing the same level can end up with completely different plates, because you picked the colour, you picked the stamp and you decided how it sat on the surface.

Unlocking a new colour changes what you make next. A new stamp changes it again. By the time you have a decent collection, choosing what to print becomes as much of the game as printing it.

THE PERFECT PRINT

Anyone can get a print onto a plate. Getting three stars is a different matter. It wants the design centred, the pressure judged and the lift timed, and it is very obvious when you have got one of those slightly wrong.

The good news is that failure costs you nothing but a retry. Clear the plate, line it up again and have another go. That forgiving loop is exactly why one plate turns into fifteen.

WHY IT IS SO EASY TO KEEP GOING

This is a quiet game. Nothing is chasing you, no meter is draining and no one is keeping score except you. The whole loop is choose, press, admire, repeat, and each cycle takes about a minute.

That makes it the sort of thing you play with half your attention while something else is on, and then find you have unlocked most of the store. The reward is never dramatic. It is just a slightly nicer plate than the last one.

QUICK TIPS

• Centre the design before you worry about pressure. A crooked print cannot be saved by good timing.
• Ease the press down rather than slamming it. Control beats speed every time.
• Save your coins for a colour you will actually use, not the first one you can afford.
• If a print goes wrong, clear it and restart rather than trying to rescue it.
