Gallery shows the photos and videos that are already on your phone. It opens on your folders, or on a single grid of everything by date, and you pick which one in Settings.
BROWSING
Photos and videos grouped by day, with Today and Yesterday headers.
A folder view with a cover image and an item count for each album, and the camera roll pinned to the top if you want it there.
Search your library by name, folder or date.
Tap the heart on anything to keep it in Favourites, which sits at the top of your folders.
Separate grid sizes for folders and for photos.
A full screen viewer with pinch to zoom, swiping between items and a built in video player.
A details sheet with name, date taken, size, resolution, duration, album and file path.
EDITING PHOTOS
Crop and straighten, rotate, flip horizontally or vertically, and mark up with a pen, highlighter, arrow, line, rectangle, oval or text in the colour you choose. Undo as you go. Saving writes a new copy to Pictures/Edited and leaves your original untouched.
EDITING VIDEOS
Trim to the part you want to keep, mute the sound, rotate, or change the speed. Saving writes a new copy to Movies/Edited. A trim that needs no re-encoding is copied through without losing quality.
SELECTING
Long press to start selecting, then share or delete several items at once. Whole folders can be selected the same way.
THE APP LOCK
Turn on Lock with biometrics and your fingerprint, face or screen lock is required before the gallery will open. While it is on, Android also keeps the app out of screenshots and out of the recent apps preview. The check is performed by Android itself, so the app never sees or stores your biometric data.
SAVING FILES SHARED FROM OTHER APPS
Share photos or videos to Gallery from another app and they are saved to your device. This is what the app did before it became a gallery, and it still works the same way.
DESIGN
Material 3 Expressive, with a light theme, a dark theme, and optional dynamic colour taken from your wallpaper.
PRIVACY
Gallery does not declare the INTERNET permission, so nothing can leave your device. There are no accounts, no analytics and no ads. It reads your photos and videos in order to show them to you, and that is all.
