Butler is the file explorer for Android I always wanted, so I built it.
Fast, private, open source. A little whimsical. Built for power users.
Butler works on your whole storage: internal, SD cards, USB drives. And every file type, not just the media your gallery shows you.
Tabs and workspaces
- Browse files in tabs and run any of Butler's tools in parallel.
- Organize tabs with the workspace manager and reuse tab setups with workspace templates.
- Multi-pane layouts on phones and tablets.
- Pin favorites and add extra storage locations.
File operations
- Copy, move, rename and delete, with transfer speeds and performance graphs while operations run.
- Trash bin support, so deletions stay reversible.
- Create and extract ZIP archives, including encrypted ones.
- An operation history showing what ran, what succeeded and what failed.
Search and text
- Search by file name and within file contents, with regular expression (regex) support.
- A text editor that stays fast on very large files.
Apps and APKs
- App manager: browse installed apps, disable them, export APKs, clear caches and uninstall.
- Receive, inspect and open APK files. Installation goes through Android's system installer.
Access and appearance
- Root or Shizuku for the places Android normally keeps locked.
- Butler shows up in other apps' file pickers, so you can browse with Butler wherever you open or save a file.
- Material You theming with dynamic colors, dark mode and an AMOLED option.
Privacy
No tracking. No analytics SDKs, no account, no cloud. Crash and error reports stay on your device unless you choose to send one. Open source.
Butler asks for "All files access" because a file manager has to reach your whole storage. Everything it does happens on your device.
This app is ad-free. Some features require a paid upgrade.
