this is a terrible app. it never starts without having to go into Android settings and manually stopping the app then going to the app to open it again. it times out and the screen has to be constantly touched to keep it open. In 2026 this app is so awful it becomes unusable. it lacks navigation controls to so it gets stuck in modes that even stopping and restarting does not recover

I mostly like the app but am frustrated that some features (eg comments on articles) aren't supported. So I open SMH in Chrome, only to find that every time I open a story in the web browser, it opens the app and opens it there. Which is the opposite of what I'm trying to do. I'd love to know whether that's modifiable. I've tried to stop it a few times... But I can't find any settings on my phone or tablet that help, nor any settings in Chrome or the SMH app that explain it/modify it.

now getting system messages that the app is using resources and I need to return it off. hardly used it yesterday and it took 12% of battery

used to be only at the lower third of the app that it'd not keep your place when backing out of an article, now it takes you back to the top every single time. infuriating! it's bad enough that most of the articles (and headlines) are misleading, if it bleeds it leads garbage also, what happened to the menu to be able to open the travel or liveblog articles in web browser? can't share them anymore
