Bad app
The app hardly opens, much less actually works in an effective manner. You can't go 2 minutes without running into a glitch or a bug in their bad UI.

System crash
Never again will I use U-Haul. A reservation meant nothing because your system crashed even though I could pull it up on my phone and the apps. Even though she could find my name then proceeded to tell me nothing was even available anyway! So wtf!! Sitting on hold 30 minutes when I needed to find an alternative solution was insane. Poor service. One star is way too generous for this headache.

Terrible performance and user interface. Most of the checkout is spent on selling extra items and services. App doesn't crash, but pages often fail to load or get stuck. Store inventory is also not synchronized so items may or may not be available when you arrive.

every possible location permission is on. when I go to verify my equipment so I don't overpay on gas and damages the app refuses to verify location so I cannot

Avoid if you can!
The app is pretty rough overall but their actual service is astoundingly bad. They claimed to have availability in my neighborhood on the day I needed to move, went through arduous booking and upsell process, and then came to realize that the location they purported would have a truck ready for me actually wouldn’t and i would have to uber to get it and pay the extra mileage. I used the chat in the app, but the agents don’t have access to any tools to actually help me change to a different size truck at the location I had originally booked for. This is a company that clearly doesn’t think much of customer experience or value customers. Avoid at all costs! Don’t bother with the chat. Don’t bother at all!
