Description

Steel Rain is a hands-on trainer for the call for fire. Whether you are learning the format for the first time or sharpening reps before you have to perform under pressure, it puts you on the glass, makes you talk the mission, and grades you against the standard.

This is not a quiz app with a fire-support skin. You run the actual sequence, in the actual order, and you have to get it right.

CALL FOR FIRE
• Run the full mission: observer identification, warning order, target location, target description, method of engagement, and method of fire and control.
• Three location methods — grid, polar, and shift from a known point.
• Adjust fire: read the round, send your corrections, walk it onto the target, and close with end of mission and battle damage assessment.

TALK THE MISSION
• Key up and say it out loud. Steel Rain transcribes your transmission on-device and coaches your format in real time — no radio, no partner, no range time required.
• Or run missions by tapping the format together when you need to train quietly.

SEE THE TARGET
• BinoView puts you behind a realistic optic to practice observation and target location before you ever call the mission.
• Vehicle and threat recognition drills build the eye for what you are actually looking at downrange.

GET CERTIFIED
• Flashcards, timed practice, and full-length mock tests built to move you toward the standard.
• Track what you miss and drill it until it sticks.

ADVANCED LADDER
• Immediate suppression, final protective fires, danger close, and the CAS 9-line — the high-stakes calls, trained deliberately.

FIRE SUPPORT PLANNING (senior track)
• Step up from calling fires to planning and integrating them.
• The D3A targeting cycle — Decide, Detect, Deliver, Assess — and where the observer plugs into each phase.
• High-payoff targets, the high-payoff target list, target selection standards, and how to read the attack guidance matrix.

BUILT TO TRAIN
• Earn rank as you progress and unlock harder content as you prove the standard, from your first mission up through senior planning.
• Runs fully on-device. No account. No ads. No tracking. No data collection.
• Content built on published field artillery doctrine, including ATP 3-09.30 and related references.

Steel Rain is an independent training aid. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the U.S. Army or the Department of Defense.

Put rounds on target. Train the standard until it is automatic.

Version 1.0.4 · Jun 4, 2026

v1.0.4 — FIST Cert Prep doctrine pass. Every Cert Prep question is now ATP-grounded: • 298 questions cross-checked against the source publications — ATP 3-09.30 Observed Fires, ATP 3-09.32 JFIRE, FM 3-09 Field Artillery Operations, JP 3-09 Joint Fire Support, JP 3-09.3 Close Air Support. • Every explainer carries a verbatim doctrine quote with chapter citation — no AI-paraphrased answers. • 57 wrong-answer corrections. Examples: "Fire support system" → "The Fires Cell" (ATP 3-09.30 1-3). "Tailoring" → "Task-organizing" (FM 3-09 4-33). "Survey" → "Mensuration" (3-6, citing JP 3-60). "17.78" → "17.8" (3-22). 120mm 4-tube FPF: 140m × 25m → 300m × 75m (Table 1-1). • Official JFS MQF test composition: SL1 test = 50 SL1 questions. SL2 test = 50 SL1 + 25 SL2 = 75 questions. SL3 test = 50 SL1 + 25 SL2 + 25 SL3 = 100 questions. Practice mode scales the same composition to 20. • 13 sequence-sensitive questions now enforce doctrinal order — the 15 subsequent corrections (ATP 3-09.30 5-24), SLOCTOP and FAPARCA memory aids, the 9-line CAS brief, CFF elements, methods of engagement, etc. • 35 questions whose answers couldn't be located in any available source publication were quarantined rather than served with guessed content. Coming back when the Nov 2023 ATP 3-09.32 is reachable. Built by a 13F with 20 years AD. Standards-only — doctrine governs. When the doctrine and the popular convention disagree, doctrine wins.

Came back to see if it was any better. Not really. I severely hope no young 13Fs in the US Army try this and think it will help them in training. Sloppy, incorrect in Call For Fire procedures and too much focus on rock theme song and some graphics.

Just a request, will you add button or option to mute the radio transmission during fire mission but not the sound of explosion. this will be a good improvement specially for the training of students. Thank you.

Please develop a Close Air Support (9-line CAS) simulator to coordinate fixed wing, rotary wing, and AC-130. Suppression of Enemy Air Defense (SEAD) missions would be a nice addition too.
