Wagotabi is your daily companion for learning Japanese from scratch, at your own pace, and with maximum immersion. Learn to read, write, and understand Japanese in context, while retaining Hiragana, Katakana, and Kanji. Use your Japanese skills to progress in the adventure offered by this educational game.

Designed in close collaboration with +300 Japanese language experts, official Japanese prefecture tourist associations and thousands of early testers, Wagotabi provides you with an immersive approach to language learning following a graded reader approach. Words and grammar points are introduced according to the JLPT standard, beginning with N5.

The game focuses on testing your Japanese, rather than teaching Japanese. It would be a better game if the tests were replaced with conversations where you could click on a word to see the translation and add it to your dictionary. I stopped playing because users see a word once and then get tested on it multiple times - it would be more fun if the game was purely exposure to words in a natural context.

Thank you for your honest feedback. The game loop may feel a bit like that initially, but actually Japanese gets used more and more in game dialogues, word exposure increases more and more. We also understand what you mean with natural exposure and adding them to your dictionary, in that aspect, Wagotabi is a bit more guided indeed.

Please put in some mnenonics for the kanjis 😭 I can somehow remember which kanji sounds what but it seems impossible to remember how these kanjis look. I am already confused between 'nan' and 'iki'masu kanji both look so much similar...

Thank you for your comment and suggestion! The Kanjidex has a radical function where you can see the name of the radical and in which Kanji it is used (and also filter by radical). We hope this can help a bit.

I never thought a language learning game could actually achieve such quality and fun. This checks every single box. Thank you so much for being one time purchase, and Ill be recommending it to others. What makes this stand out from others is you can actually witness what you've learned yield results as you engage with other NPCs, which gives you an insane feeling of accomplishment and progress. Too many other programs lack this concept. Goodbye greedy Duolingo. I wont miss you. 👋
